From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
